Journey with Dr Elica (Elitsa) Kyoseva, Quantum for Bio Program Director at Wellcome Leap, ex-MIT Fellow
To celebrate our Founder’s initiative SheQuantum as we’re entering our fourth year, we would like to take a moment to look back at our very successful journey since our founder Nithyasri Srivathsan founded SheQuantum in 2020 and to give a shout out to our pillar of support, Dr Elica Kyoseva.
Dr Elica (Elitsa) Kyoseva is Quantum for Bio Program Director at Wellcome Leap and ex-MIT Fellow. What if we could develop new algorithms that deliver quantum advantage for health? Answering this question is her goal. Elica spearhead Quantum for Bio, a $40M +$10M Supported Challenge Program, focused on harnessing the potential of quantum computing for transformative applications in biology and healthcare.
Elica was fascinated by Astronomy and Physics since she was young. After the completion of her PhD in Quantum Optics and Information, she moved to the Center for Quantum Technologies in Singapore as a postdoc. Three years later, she established her own research group in Quantum Engineering at the Singapore University of Tech & Design. Subsequently, Elica spent a year at MIT (Cambridge, USA) as a Research Fellow in the Nuclear Science and Engineering Department. Elica’s research expertise is in quantum control and engineering. Additionally, to her scientific career, Elica is very passionate about ending gender inequality in the STEM fields and served as a STEM Ambassador to the UN Women Singapore Committee for 2 years. Currently, she is the Managing Director for Israel of the global non-profit organization Girls in Tech. Thus, she is excited to join the Advisory Board of She Quantum and to work towards encouraging more girls and women to pursue a career in QC. And Elica is one of the very early-stage supporters of SheQuantum and a vibrant part of our advisory members group.
